Introduction

  What are Mobile Suits ?

Mobile Suits (or MS) are giant humanoid machines designed to live on the battle field. They measure between 15 and 25 metres tall and form the main type of weapon used in the different Gundam sagas. Their adaptability and their power makes them more effective than other tanks or planes whilst they also tend to be piloted from the inside by just one person. The technology involved in their construction differs depending on the universe they appear in, but their original use is often said to be construction in space and it’s obvious their original purpose was moving in space. The term Suit comes from the first spacesuits of current astronauts and to some extent Mobile Suits were a distant evolution of them.

  What are Mobile Armors ?

Mobile Armors (MA) are non humanoid vehicles used originally for manoeuvres in space. They can be bigger and more powerful than Mobile Suits. Moreover - the great size of certain MA permits them to hold all sorts of weapons, which are often very powerful.

In recent Gundam series, certain MS have been able to transform and take the shape of Mobile Armour to get higher mobility in combat or for diverse other varieties of uses.

  What are space colonies ?

The space colonies are a trademark of the Gundam Saga. In effect, we find them in the semi-linked series that feature descendants of special colonies like we see today. Most of the time they are massive structures where people have recreated an atmosphere and a more or less terrestrial atmosphere depending on the universe they appear in.

The wars in the different Gundam universes generally can be broken down to the colonies versus the inhabitants of Earth. Basically, each of the two camps have their own vision of humanity’s future and this results in incessant warring.
